WWE RAW results [November 26,2012]

The time for sneak attacks and trash talk ended about halfway through Raw in the Cajundome when, following an increasingly heated back-and-forth, John Cena finally got himself a one-on-one match against Dolph Ziggler, courtesy of Managing Supervisor Vickie Guerrero.

Competing with a slight tear in his meniscus, Cena showed no signs of hesitance when he took it to Mr. Money in the Bank early on, sending Ziggler airborne with a series of hiptosses and headlocks, leaving The Showoff scrambling for separation only moments after the opening bell.

He found it after absorbing a painful-looking opening surge from Cena, planting the Cenation leader long enough for Ziggler to rally and potentially catch his second wind.

And boy, did he ever.

Ziggler surged back fast and furious against Cena, taking the fight outside the ring and hauling the 10-time WWE Champion into the steel steps before decking him with a clothesline and dropping elbows upon elbows on the prone sternum of the Cenation leader. Cena looked to turn the tide when he unleashed his signature shoulder blocks against Ziggler, but The Showoff stopped Cena in his tracks, thwarting the Five Knuckle Shuffle and executing a leaping DDT that left Cena splattered across the mat.

Dolph ultimately went for finesse over flash in his final attempt to put Cena away, leaping atop his opponent's back and locking in a sleeper hold that nearly put Cena to bed. The Cenation Commander-in-Chief countered with an STF, but Ziggler was able to reach the ropes and made Cena pay with a resounding dropkick to the face. Ziggler gave the WWE Universe its highlight-reel moment when he squirmed mid-fall out of the Attitude Adjustment and hit Cena with the Zig Zag. The Cenation leader managed a last-minute escape, though, before the referee could count him down.

But as straightforward and competitive as it was, the match's conclusion was nearly as bizarre as its origins. First, Cena seemed to aggravate his knee injury while attempting the Five Knuckle Shuffle. While officials attended to Cena, Ziggler attempted to tamper with the ring post and expose the bare steel of the turnbuckle, but AJ Lee quickly sprinted to the ring and cut Dolph's nefarious scheme short. This brought out Vickie Guerrero, who drew the ire of AJ and the attention of the referee to boot. With everyone distracted, Ziggler made his move and attempted to smash Cena with his Money in the Bank briefcase, but the injured Cena was ready for the cheap shot, dodging Ziggler's strike and finally executing the AA to silence The Showoff.

And then, of course, he kissed AJ again. Honestly, after a hard-fought win like that, who can blame him?

John Cena and Dolph Ziggler battled in the men's locker room
VIDEO

She may be 95 pounds soaking wet, but AJ Lee proved she had plenty of guts when she stormed into the men's locker room to confront Dolph Ziggler after The Showoff's sneak attack on John Cena. But before AJ could lace into Mr. Money in the Bank, Ziggler retaliated with a string of vicious insults that shook the former Raw General Manager to her core. "I've seen girls like you my whole life," Ziggler sneered. "You're all the same. Sad, weak, pathetic. Face it, AJ. You're just trash."

The insults left AJ speechless, but happily one other option remained: She decided to fight, raining blows down on Ziggler's head and leaving The Showoff stumbling ... until Cena made his entrance, injured knee and all, and proceeded to tear the locker room apart with an all-out brawl. And while Cena saved AJ further humiliation, he may have come out worse for wear: After Ziggler put Cena through the bathroom stalls (yes, all of them), The Showoff got the last word by stomping Cena's injured knee as Superstars and officials dragged him out the door, leaving the Cenation leader with a potentially torn meniscus.

Vickie Guerrero presented "eyewitnesses" to the "AJ scandal"

PHOTOS | VIDEO

Did Vickie Guerrero finally push AJ Lee and John Cena to their limits? In her latest attempt to expose the so-called "AJ scandal," the Managing Supervisor brought out her greatest evidence: a pair of eyewitnesses who laid eyes on the supposed fling and came forth on Raw to present their accounts. Vickie summoned a waitress and a parking attendant from the Sacramento, Calif., restaurant where Cena and AJ had their alleged tryst, but AJ wasn't about to let herself be slandered any more than she already had been.

"If you want to fire me, go ahead and do it," the former Raw General Manager hissed at her replacement, only one night after Tamina Snuka interrupted their previous confontation with a sneak attack on AJ (WATCH: TAMINA SPEAKS). "But if not, I suggest you do everybody a favor and shut the hell up."

The insult did little to faze Vickie, who took the proceedings one step further and prepared to display photos of AJ and Cena in the parking lot. "If you take offense to nudity, I suggest you walk out and protect your little ones' eyes, because now I'm going to present a photo of John Cena and AJ in the car!" Vickie beamed, but what emerged instead was nothing more than a stewing, stomping and decidedly clothed Cena.

"All of this is garbage," Cena said simply, accusing Vickie of manufacturing the scandal simply to get tongues wagging. Happily, he had a solution to that problem.

"I'll give you something to talk about," Cena said before turning toward AJ. "I hope you don't mind," said the Cenation leader before pulling AJ in for a tender kiss in the middle of the ring. But he never got to finish his point, because after Cena broke the lip-lock and turned back to Vickie to finish his thought, AJ spun him around and leaped into the 10-time WWE Champion's arms, swarming him with a smooch that left Vickie speechless.

With Cena otherwise preoccupied, however, the door was wide open for a sneak attack and that's just what happened: Dolph Ziggler sprinted forth and hit the Cenation leader with a cheap shot, squirming out of the Attitude Adjustment and booking it up the ramp to the locker room area. Cena gave chase, but an awkward landing after diving through the ropes seemed to hobble him considerably. Cena pursued Dolph as best he could, but with one leg seemingly compromised, the "AJ scandal" may have left him damaged in a way no one ever expected.

5 John Cena

The Cenation leader bursts back into the top five this week as he prepares to face off against WWE Champion CM Punk and the monstrous Ryback in a Triple Threat Match at Survivor Series. Can Cena ride the momentum of Monday night? Was Cena’s victory over The Second City Saint a sign of things to come? The WWE Universe will just have to wait until Sunday to find out.

John Cena def. WWE Champion CM Punk

PHOTOS | VIDEO

Nearly two months after their last meeting, CM Punk's epic conflict with John Cena resumed in the confines of Nationwide Arena, with Mick Foley patrolling the outside as the Special Guest Enforcer. And despite Punk's hesitance to mix it up with Cena, the 10-time WWE Champion notched a strong victory over the incumbent titleholder when Foley prevented The Second City Saint from abandoning the contest.

Forced to fight his way out of the predicament, however, Punk responded with gusto despite his efforts to vacate the bout. The Voice of the Voiceless' technical expertise nearly swung the contest after Punk locked Cena in a vise-like sleeper hold, but Cena managed to power out and create separation by slamming Punk into the turnbuckle. Punk briefly abandoned mat wrestling for brute force when he exchanged a barrage of kicks and punches against the Cenation leader. But blunt force is where Cena lives, and the 10-time WWE Champion countered strongly with his signature shoulderblocks.

Punk was not about to take Cena's moves lying down, though, and sprang a surprise counter to leave Cena prone for the flying elbow. Cena dodged the airborne strike and landed a Five-Knuckle Shuffle, but Punk again countered, writhing out of the Attitude Adjustment and stunning Cena with a kick to the face before locking him up in the Koji Clutch. Cena broke the hold by reaching the ropes. The maneuver appeared to have taken its toll on him, but as always, Cena would not be counted out so fast. He countered Punk's springboard clothesline into the STF and, after Foley foiled Paul Heyman's attempt to break the hold, locked Punk in the maneuver again until the champion made his way to the ropes.

Having had enough, Punk attempted again to leave, but was met by Ryback halfway up the ramp and scrambled reluctantly back to the ring. Cena, however, was lying in wait and pounded Punk with the Attitude Adjustment to pin the champion. Cena's jubilation was ultimately short-lived as he found himself face to face again with Ryback. Each man grabbed hold of Punk's precious title, laying claim to The Second City Saint's prize while Punk himself withered in dread, the elusive yearlong mark never closer and yet, somehow, never quite so far away.

Vickie Guerrero presented audio evidence of the "AJ scandal"

PHOTOS | VIDEO

They say the truth will set you free, so who was left liberated when Vickie Guerrero finally convinced AJ Lee to give her side of the "AJ scandal"?

Well, that's a complicated question to answer. You see, while Vickie (and Dolph Ziggler, who remained in the ring for moral support) seemed to be scraping the bottom of the barrel in their supposed evidence against AJ and the Cenation leader. What transpired on Monday seemed to turn the tide, stunningly enough, back in their favor.

For one, Vickie finally got AJ to tell her side of the story, and from the get-go, the former Raw General Manager seemed uncommonly on-edge when addressing the scandal. "I admit it!" AJ barked after Vickie's needling reached its breaking point, although her follow-up managed to leave Vickie somewhat at a loss for words. "John Cena and I ... are just friends."

With Vickie reeling, AJ attempted to get to the bottom of the Managing Supervisor's slanderous efforts: lingering embarrassment over Mr. McMahon's appointment of AJ as Raw GM at Raw 1,000, compounded by AJ's previous humiliation of Vickie and, of course, the ever-present threat of yet another beatdown at AJ's hands.

But while a picture is supposedly worth a thousand words, what Vickie had in store for the former Raw GM seemed to unnerve her more than any security footage ever could: audio evidence.

"What happened last night was a mistake," boomed a supposed voicemail from AJ after Vickie cued it up over the TitanTron loudspeakers. "I want to stop ... but ... when I see you ... I lose control," purred another, leaving AJ genuinely baffled over the origins of the messages. The voice was, indeed, hers, but the messages, she swore, were doctored. She immediately called into question how Vickie got her hands on them.

Never one to pass up the opportunity to insult someone, Ziggler interjected himself here. "What's more embarrassing?" The Showoff sneered. "The fact that John won't talk to you anymore, or all those nights in his hotel room?"

Cue the trumpets and the M.O.P. sample, because this latest insult brought out Cena, who stomped down to AJ's rescue, but found his services somewhat unwarranted: Vickie stopped the Cenation leader from decking Ziggler ... and proceeded to do the honors herself, flooring Mr. Money in the Bank with a slap to the face before finally allowing Cena to eject the shamed Showoff from the ring.

Vickie Guerrero presented further evidence of John Cena and AJ’s inappropriate relationship

PHOTOS | VIDEO

“I am proud of myself,” began Vickie Guerrero’s began with an auspicious attempt to further slander the reputations of both John Cena and AJ Lee. The Managing Supervisor of Raw had no squabbles about taking her smear campaign against the Cenation leader and the former Raw GM across the Atlantic, attempting to convince the WWE Universe that the two engaged in an inappropriate relationship while Raw was under Miss Lee’s stewardship.

But before Vickie could elaborate on the twosome’s supposed transgressions, Cena himself marched out to the ring to present his case. Cena’s insults towards the Raw Managing Supervisor were cut short, however, by Vickie’s latest bit of evidence: footage of AJ apparently walking into Cena’s room wearing a bathrobe in a “state of undress” while (from a completely different camera angle) a shirtless Cena mounted a “do not disturb” sign on the hotel room door.

Cena denounced the footage with a smile on his face, but Vickie would not be denied, calling out AJ herself to give her side of the story.

Instead, however, AJ appeared on the TitanTron, shaking with rage and denying Vickie the satisfaction of coming to the ring. If AJ relented and crossed the ropes, she claimed, Vickie would receive the beating of a lifetime and AJ would be fired as a result. “And then I wouldn’t get to do what I love to do,” AJ seethed. The words weren’t out of her mouth before Dolph Ziggler slidled up next to the former Raw GM and wrapped his arms around her, saying “and we all know what you love to do.”

The insult was too much for Cena to bear, and the Cenation leader sprinted from the ring in search of The Showoff while Vickie cackled in the ring.

John Cena & Ryback def. WWE Champion CM Punk & Dolph Ziggler

PHOTOS | VIDEO

We’re not saying CM Punk has the gift of prophecy, but it’s fair to say his and Dolph Ziggler’s tag team contest against John Cena and Ryback was about as rough as they both expected it was going to be. Still, Punk wasn’t about to let such a match go by without getting his two cents in. The Voice of the Voiceless grabbed a microphone before the opening bell, lauding the length of his reign (351 days and counting) and promising to leave Survivor Series as the reigning WWE Champion, confirmed as The Best in the World.

The time for talk ended rather abruptly, though, when Cena and Ryback hit the ring for their first-ever (and potentially last-ever) teaming.

Cena and Punk started things off, resuming their long-running rivalry with a dead-even sequence of mat wrestling before Punk tagged in Ziggler, whose technical acumen wasn’t enough to keep the Cenation leader at bay. But after a brief return by Punk to soften Cena up, Ziggler found his groove. Mr. Money in the Bank re-entered the match with gusto, unleashing a seemingly endless sequence of elbow drops on Cena’s prone torso. The attack opened the door for Punk to tag back in and pummel Cena with a set of kicks and knees that brought The Second City Saint within a hair’s breadth of triumph. Cena quickly turned the tables with a last-ditch Attitude Adjustment on Punk, but a quick tag to Ziggler prevented the Cenation leader from summoning Ryback. The momentum, however tentatively, stayed in the corner of Punk & The Showoff.

Punk kept the attack going, trapping Cena in a triangle hold and alternating with Ziggler in an attempt to isolate the 10-time WWE Champion from his monstrous partner. Still, they don’t call Ziggler The Showoff for nothing, as his failed attempt at an overly flashy dropkick forced him to tag in Punk just as Cena reached Ryback and brought the beast into the match.

The Second City Saint did not last long after Ryback entered the fray, as the beast pulverized both Punk and Ziggler before pinning The WWE Champion with Shell Shocked. Once Punk writhed out of the ring, though, the WWE Universe was treated to a strange, ominous scene. As Cena entered the ring, ostensibly to celebrate, Ryback locked eyes with the Cenation leader and began to bellow “FEED ME MORE!!!” with the WWE Universe chanting in unison.

The message, it seemed, was clear: There’s room on Ryback’s menu for more than just CM Punk.

After vigorously defending himself against Raw Managing Supervisor Vickie Guerrero’s allegation that he was involved in an “inappropriate relationship” with AJ Lee, John Cena shoved Dolph Ziggler to the canvas on Raw. Raw Managing Supervisor Vickie Guerrero called out John Cena
Did John Cena and AJ Lee really get involved in an “inappropriate relationship” during AJ’s reign as Raw’s General Manager? That was Raw Managing Supervisor Vickie Guerrero’s allegation when she called the former WWE Champion into the ring on Raw.

Cena may have dismissed the allegation with his signature jocularity, but Vickie upped the ante by revealing photos of the Raw Superstar and AJ enjoying a candlelight dinner along with security footage of the duo riding a hotel elevator up to the same floor. A stunned Cena continued to deny the accusations, but Vickie refused to be deterred as she suggested that the twosome broke WWE’s rulebook.

Finally, when Dolph Ziggler hit the squared circle to back his associate’s claims, Cena shoved the Money in the Bank winner to the canvas and told him to mind his tongue before retreating to the locker room. (PHOTOS)

WWE Universe raises $1 million for Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Led by WWE Superstar John Cena, the WWE Universe has raised $1 million for Susan G. Komen for the Cure during its monthlong campaign to help cure breast cancer. (PHOTOS | WATCH)

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Cena wore co-branded, pink and black ring gear that fans were able to purchase throughout October to support Susan G. Komen, the world’s largest nonprofit funder of breast cancer research and community outreach programs. One hundred percent of WWE’s profits from the Cena merchandise was donated to Susan G. Komen.

On tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw, Cena presented a check on behalf of the WWE Universe for $1 million to Eric Brinker, son of Susan G. Komen Founder/CEO Nancy G. Brinker, and Dorothy Jones, Vice President of Marketing for Susan G. Komen. More than 100 breast cancer survivors, co-survivors and representatives were in attendance to help bring awareness to the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second-leading cause of cancer-related death among women in the United States.

“I want to personally thank the WWE Universe for their overwhelming support of Susan G. Komen’s fight against breast cancer,” Cena said. “I’m truly honored to lead WWE's charge to rise above cancer and help find a cure.”

“Women everywhere will benefit from this extraordinary partnership, which has helped to reach millions of people, while raising funds for Komen's cutting-edge global research program,” said Dorothy Jones, Vice President of Marketing for Susan G. Komen. “We are so grateful for WWE, and especially to John Cena and the WWE Superstars and Divas, for their enthusiastic support and friendship.”

WWE also utilized all of its assets, including TV and pay-per-view broadcasts, Live Events, PSAs and in-arena, digital and social media to generate awareness and encourage fans to get involved. Throughout the month, the announcer table, entrance ramp and ring skirts were co-branded, and the middle ring rope was turned pink to promote the fight against breast cancer. WWE generated an astounding 500 million impressions for Susan G. Komen, including more than 300 million impressions during TV broadcasts in the U.S. and 200 million global digital impressions.

Approximately five million women — more female viewers than the top rated shows on women’s networks — watch WWE’s weekly programming.

While breast cancer awareness month is coming to an end, unfortunately the disease is still affecting millions of people across the world. WWE will continue its ongoing commitment to Susan G. Komen with additional plans for the partnership being made around Mother’s Day and beyond. For more information about Susan G. Komen for the Cure, breast health or breast cancer, visit komen.org/wweor call 1-877 GO KOMEN.

Despite his promise to stay out of Ryback’s way at WWE Hell in a Cell, John Cena still found himself mired in controversy when his “business dinner” became the catalyst for the “AJ scandal.”

Did AJ have an affair?

Could a simple "business dinner" between two "friends" have really hurled one Diva into instant dishonor and rocked Monday night's flagship show to its very foundations?

On the Oct. 22 edition of Raw, General Manager AJ Lee was suddenly forced to step down from her leadership position by the WWE Board of Directors for "fraternizing with a WWE Superstar." When AJ revealed that the Superstar in question was none other than John Cena, the 12-time World Champion himself - as well as the WWE Universe - seemed to be absolutely floored by the news. (POLL: ARE THE ACTIONS AGAINST AJ JUSTIFIED?)

While Cena instantly finds himself caught in an awkward spotlight amid AJ's scandal, the future of the now-disgraced Diva seems as dark as it is uncertain. (WATCH AS CENA TRIED TO CONSOLE AJ)

Since first stepping into a WWE ring, AJ's life has been turned completely upside down. Through it all, the spitfire competitor's personal relationships have always walked hand in hand with her emergence as a prominent player in the WWE.

Even as Raw General Manager, AJ's motivation was constantly brought into question by the likes of Punk and his associate Paul Heyman, who claimed that The Second City Saint rejecting her marriage proposal caused her to make decisions against the WWE Champion.

Regardless of whether AJ's involvement with Cena is as innocent as they both claim, there is no denying that the many exploits of the spirited Diva has ruffled a lot of features. As a result, one has to wonder if there is anyone she can truly count on in the locker room now that she has been pushed off her lofty perch. Moreover, with her adversary Vickie Guerrero now Managing Supervisor of Raw, will AJ even be part of that locker room any longer?

The controversy surrounding AJ Lee's resignation from Raw continues to run wild. And there is no telling how and when she will land on her feet. (POLL: ARE THE ACTIONS AGAINST AJ JUSTIFIED?)

John Cena addressed the WWE Universe

PHOTOS | VIDEO

It's safe to say that the WWE Universe was surprised to say the least when John Cena stepped aside to allow Ryback to sign the No. 1 contender's contract last week on Raw. And this week, in the shadow of MetLife Stadium, the Cenation leader stepped into the ring not to expound upon his decision, but to give the WWE Universe a preview, in his own words, of what they can expect at Hell in a Cell.

And what, exactly, did the historic main event of Hell in a Cell hold in store? To put it simply: "change."

"Change is 6-foot 3," Cena said. "Change is 291 pounds, and when 'change' sets foot into this ring, all he can hear over and over again is 'FEED ME MORE!' "

Before Cena could continue, though, the riff of "Cult of Personality" rumbled through the loudspeakers and the WWE Champion strutted out, 337 days atop the mountain under his belt and looking thoroughly bemused at what he called Cena's "new role" of being "Ryback's personal cheerleader," not to mention the supposed greatness of the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants (it is truly hard to be a Second City Saint in the city).

And regarding change? "I've been WWE Champion for 337 days and counting, which means you haven't been champion for a lot longer than that," Punk said. "And that is change you can count on."

"Everybody knows when CM Punk makes a promise, he keeps it, and I promise I will walk out of Hell in a Cell still the WWE Champion."

Cena, however, had heard enough. Riled up by Punk's insults, Cena turned the subject of conversation to another recent hot topic: his injured elbow. He would not be interfering in Punk's scheduled title match at Hell in a Cell, but as for tonight, "Regarding yours truly, I am 100 percent medically cleared," the Cenation leader said, flexing his elbow for emphasis and inviting Punk into the ring for an impromptu rumble down the Turnpike.

And for a minute, it looked like Punk would acquiesce to Cena's request. But eventually, the warning shrieks of Paul Heyman won out and the champion strode back to the locker room, a smile on his face and title held high.

AJ Lee revealed the Superstar she was allegedly fraternizing with to be John Cena

VIDEO

John Cena wasted no time in finding former Raw GM AJ Lee in the locker room area, offering his support following her unceremonious resignation and asking her why she didn't fight the accusations leveled against her by Vickie Guerrero. As it turns out, the answer was the last thing Cena (or anybody else in the WWE Universe) would expect: The Superstar in question was none other than Cena himself. The allegations arose after the two shared a "business dinner," and AJ decided not to fight the accusations to avoid dragging Cena's name through the mud. A gobsmacked Cena assured AJ he'd do what he could to help, but a conversation with Mr. McMahon bore no fruit: "If it wasn't this, it'd be something else," The Chairman said. As for Vickie? Mr. McMahon remained undecided, and it appeared that what would be would be.

In a last attempt to right the situation, Cena went to Vickie and tried to undo the damage, but he was met with similar resistance. "Perception is reality: You asked AJ on a date on Raw, and ended up taking her to dinner." Therefore, according to The Queen Diva, the reality of the situation was this: Cena cost AJ her job.

John Cena at Live with Kelly and Michael

NEW YORK – WWE Universe, don’t miss John Cena on “Live with Kelly and Michael” Monday! The WWE Superstar, who is recovering from elbow surgery, joins the syndicated morning talk show to talk about WWE’s partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure. (WATCH CENA'S TOUT)

“It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so that’s what Susan G. Komen for the Cure is all about,” Cena said. “It’s something we have to find a cure for. I’m just happy to be doing it. It is a great opportunity to spread the message.” (MORE ON WWE & KOMEN)

Cena expressed the importance of all WWE Superstars, himself included, taking time out of their busy schedules to spread goodwill to the WWE Universe and beyond.

“There are a million charities out there and we all have the ones that we’re loyal to,” he told WWE.com. “I have expressed my love for Make-A-Wish multiple times. The concept of the charity is amazing.” (MORE ON CENA & MAKE-A-WISH)

“Being personally affected by cancer in more than one instance — this thing needed to happen, for me,” he said of the Komen partnership. “I’m glad WWE embraced it. I’m glad Susan G. Komen embraced it. It’s fun to be in that position where you can use your voice to send the message and it’s amazing that people will listen.”

Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan have a few surprises for Cena on Monday’s show, too. They’ll reveal their own signature finishing moves and even taunt WWE Champion CM Punk.

“In a little bit of a different approach, which surprised the hosts, I tried to be as calm as possible and let them be WWE Superstars,” Cena said. “I think they both could have a career in the ring if they decided.”

Surprisingly, the topic of Super Bowl XLII won’t arise on Monday’s episode. Cena is a diehard New England Patriots fan and the Massachusetts-based team lost Super Bowl XLII to the New York Giants in 2008, when Strahan played defensive end.

“I think the best situation there is just not to bring it up,” Cena joked. “I think if we had enough time, it probably would have gone sour.”

“Hopefully I’ll be back for WrestleMania 29 in Met Life Stadium. I’ll be able to be a little more physical and we can see who the better man really is. Maybe that’s a throw down I’m putting out there right now,” he said, challenging the former NFL player.

“He can throw it back at me, it’s all right,” Cena said. “Or if he wants to take it, he can take it. Sooner or later that conversation is going to come up and I’m going to be ‘Captain Sour Grapes.’ I just hope he doesn’t throw a Super Bowl ring in my face.”

WWE Night of Champions 2012 results [September 16,2012]

BOSTON – WWE Champion John Cena and CM Punk used every tool in their respective arsenals as they battled to determine which Superstar was truly “Best in the World” in front of the Cenation leader’s hometown Boston crowd. Ultimately, it was Cena’s impressive top rope German suplex that would conclude this brutal bout. Yet, it wasn’t Cena’s arm that was raised in victory at the end of the night.
After Cena began celebrating what appeared to be his 11th WWE Championship victory, referee Chad Patton noted that Cena’s shoulders were also flat on the canvas as the Cenation leader had Punk in a pinned. As explained by ring announcer Justin Roberts, the match had officially ended in a draw … with CM Punk retaining the WWE Title. (PHOTOS)
The smirk that Punk wore at the end of the night as he strode up the entrance ramp – WWE Title and Paul Heyman in tow – mirrored the one he wore at the beginning of the bout. Clad in first place New York Yankees–esque pinstripes to rile up the last place Boston Red Sox faithful in attendance, The Straight Edge Superstar set a deliberate pace as he kept his powerhouse opponent off his feet. By taking Cena’s size advantage out of the equation, Punk clearly surmised, the bout would be a manner of wearing Cena down before finishing him off with a Go to Sleep or his signature submission hold, the Anaconda Vise.
The tactic was working, inspiring guest commentator John “Bradshaw” Layfield to note that Punk was wrestling a “perfect match” and had gone into this bout with a thought-out game plan. Every time Cena tried to shift momentum, whether with a series of shoulder tackles or with his Five Knuckle Shuffle fist drop, Punk was seemingly one step ahead. Heyman, whose current association with The Second City Saint has yet to be revealed, looked on approvingly from ringside.
As Punk tried to wear down the challenger with submission after submission, it was Cena’s pure strength that helped the Cenation leader escape Punk’s holds, much to the delight of Cena’s family watching the action from the front row. Cena was not only driven by a desire to once again hoist the WWE Title above his head, but he was also determined to end Punk’s aggressive and dangerous quest for respect at any cost. Would that desire be enough, though?
After gaining the upper hand in a brutal back-and-forth brawl, Punk seemed to signal an early victory when he ascended the turnbuckle and flew through the air, driving a savage elbow directly into Cena’s heart. The Second City Saint followed up his aerial feat with the Go to Sleep, the very move that twice put Cena away in their now-iconic WWE Championship clashes at Money in the Bank and SummerSlam the previous year. However, this time, Cena kicked out of the GTS, much to the disbelief of the WWE Universe, the announce team and, yes, Paul Heyman. It was at this point that frustration began to show on the face of the WWE Champion. Having pulled out all the stops, Punk regained control, but only momentarily, as he soon fell victim to both the Five Knuckle Shuffle and the Attitude Adjustment. Just as Cena had astonishingly kicked out of the GTS, so too had Punk outlasted Cena’s signature maneuver.
It was at this point in the bout that both Superstars began employing even riskier attacks, with Cena executing an aerial leg drop and Punk taking to the sky with a poorly scouted moonsault. Punk then countered yet another Attitude Adjustment attempt into a Go to Sleep, which Cena again kicked out of. Increasingly agitated, Punk went outside of his own arsenal and attempted to silence Cena with a Rock Bottom – The Rock’s very maneuver that defeated Cena at WrestleMania XXVIII — but even such mind games would not fell the indomitable Cena, who caught Punk in yet another Attitude Adjustment. As the WWE Universe looked on with bated breath, Punk stayed alive by kicking out before the three-count.
Exhausted, battered and desperate, both Superstars traded blows atop one of the turnbuckles for a moment that had the WWE Universe packed inside Boston’s TD Garden and watching around the world wincing in anticipation of an imminent ring-shaking impact. However, no one could have seen what happened next.
With Punk perched on the top rope, Cena threw Punk backward in a stunning German suplex, a move that seemed to signal victory for the West Newbury, Mass., native. However, as the pink-and-black clad ring warrior’s entrance music blared throughout the arena, Cena’s victory celebration was cut painfully short as referee Chad Patton’s ruling was made public: Both Superstars’ shoulders were pinned to the mat when the three-count was made, thus ending the bout in a draw. As a result, Punk’s 300-plus day WWE Title reign rolled on. Not content with merely besting Cena, Punk laid out the then-unsuspecting Cenation leader by striking the challenger with the WWE Title itself. “Respect” indeed. (WATCH: CHAD PATTON EXCLUSIVE)
Punk’s crusade for respect has been about more than the WWE Championship, and it’s unlikely that he’s going to be satisfied by his victory at Night of Champions. As for Punk’s association with the Original ECW founder, this “Paul Heyman guy” is keeping us all guessing.
But what of Cena? It remains to be seen how The Cenation Commander-in-Chief will respond to this controversial hometown defeat, but as is always the case with the Superstar that truly personifies “hustle,” “loyalty” and, yes, “respect,” Cena won’t take this disappointment lying down.

CM Punk interrupted Bret Hart's interview of John Cena

PHOTOS | VIDEO

Bret Hart’s interview with John Cena started out a good deal more positively than his conversation with CM Punk. The two former WWE Champions traded compliments while Hart mentioned that Cena’s rivalry with Punk reminded him of his former animosity with another WWE Hall of Famer, Shawn Michaels. Hart told Cena that he saw a lot of himself in Cena, and a lot of the old HBK in Punk.

While Cena paid due homage to The Excellence of Execution, Hart then asked Cena to reveal what he was going to do to “shut this phony punk up.”

That brought Punk out, blood boiling, to stir the pot once again. Punk echoed Hart’s sentiment that the “Hit Man” and Cena were alike … in the sense that they were “unceremoniously surpassed” by someone better than them — in Hart’s case, it was Michaels, and in Cena’s case, it was Punk himself.

Punk continued to preach to the WWE Universe, extolling his nearly yearlong reign as champion, his humiliation of The Rock and his defeat of Cena in an attempt to throw his weight around before the Cenation leader.

Cena, however, retaliated in kind, throwing Punk’s history as champion back in his face, claiming that Punk retained his mantle “by any means necessary,” which does not truly define a champion in Cena’s eyes. He claimed that Punk, formerly an agent of change, was currently defining himself simply by possessing the WWE Title, which was a far cry from the revolutionary The Voice of the Voiceless claimed to be. Cena then played to the home crowd by talking some smack in French, though Punk was quick to chastise Cena for “lowering himself” to speak “the language of the locals.” This woke the dragon even further in Cena, who erupted in a tirade against The Second City Saint and dubbed him “ignorant” before playing the role of Rosetta Stone and translating hisfrancaisfrom a few moments earlier:

“You say you’re gonna win, but I’m gonna kick your ass,” Cena repeated in English.

After some fuming, Punk lashed out not against Cena but against Hart, who blocked The Second City Saint’s attack and struck him in the head. Punk tumbled from the ring, backed up the ramp, and held onto his WWE Championship like his life depended on it (WATCH: HART DISCUSSES HIS RETURN).

3 John Cena
If a true friend walks in when the whole world walks out, then Jerry Lawler definitely has a friend in John Cena. The Cenation leader, fresh off his hard-fought win against Intercontinental Champion The Miz, heroically came to the rescue of "The King" as WWE Champion CM Punk roughed up Lawler during a Steel Cage Match on Raw.

5 John Cena
On the one hand, John Cena continues to hold his own in the ring after fending off the advances of a worthy competitor in Daniel Bryan on Raw. On the other hand, the Cenation leader’s championship aspirations may be in trouble if he continues to lose sight of Big Show before they both challenge CM Punk for the WWE Title at SummerSlam.

Members of the WWE Universe didn't listen to Daniel Bryan when he demanded they stop chanting "Yes!" Instead, the crowd only seemed to shout it louder as the extremely aggravated Superstar faced John Cena one-on-one for the first time on Raw. (PHOTOS | VIDEO)
The Cenation leader grounded Bryan early on, but the submission specialist quickly turned the tables when Cena pursued him outside the ring. After landing a swift flying knee off the ring apron to Cena's face, Bryan continued to whip his opponent's midsection with hard kicks. Cena rallied back and appeared set to hit an Attitude Adjustment, but the resourceful Bryan slid off the Cenation leader's broad shoulders and locked in a guillotine chokehold with leg scissors.
After wearing Cena down with the submission maneuver, Bryan took to the air with a flying headbutt off the top rope and laced Cena's midsection with more vicious kicks. Remarkably, Cena rose back to his feet and locked in the STF, which Bryan reversed into the “No!” Lock. Refusing to submit, Cena powered out of the hold and sent Bryan crashing to the canvas with an AA to secure the thrilling win.
CM Punk was quick to spoil Cena's celebration, as he came out to the ring and held the WWE Championship above his head. Suddenly, Big Show rushed to the ring, but Cena saw him coming and shoved Punk out of the way. As Cena and The World's Largest Athlete tangled, Punk hit Big Show from behind, sending both men tumbling to the mat. The Straight Edge Superstar then turned his attention to the announce table, grabbing a headset and letting loose on Jerry "The King" Lawler again with a bitter tirade describing how this Raw would end the same way the last two did — with The Voice of the Voiceless standing tall and clutching his WWE Title.
Punk returned to the ring and moved to strike Big Show with a roundhouse kick to the head, but The World's Largest Athlete recovered and floored Punk with a WMD, then walloped Cena with a second knockout punch. With Punk's title now hanging over his shoulder, it was the mammoth Big Show — not the WWE Champion — who was standing tall as Raw went off the air this time. 10 superstars who would make a good General Manager

If you want a General Manager who always has his finger on the pulse of the WWE Universe, look no further than The Cenation Commander-in-Chief, John Cena. It's not just about the immense size of the Cenation or his social media support (more than 2,305,000 Twitter followers); it's about how Cena never turns a deaf ear to his critics. He hears it all, takes it in, and finds ways to rise above it. WWE needs a GM who knows how to make the right decisions as well as embrace the adversity that comes with such a high-pressure job.

With a tireless work ethic and a never-say-quit attitude, Cena has also raised the bar as a true leader for the entire WWE locker room, so drawing respect as a GM won't be a hurdle. Over his 10 years as a WWE Superstar, Cena has spent extensive time on both Raw and SmackDown, witnessing some of the best (Stephanie McMahon) and the worst (Mike Adamle) brand bosses, which gives the Cenation leader an upper hand in understanding the do's and don'ts of the crucial position. In their first match in two years, Chris Jericho appeared to have John Cena right where he wanted when he had him locked in the Walls of Jericho. But before a winner could be declared, Big Show charged in and dropped his massive frame down on the Cenation leader, ending the bout in a disqualification. Next, with the match over and Jericho out of the ring,The World’s Largest Athlete brutalized Cena with a chokeslam, followed up with a Colossal Clutch. Only after Cena turned blue in the face, did Show finally release him from his grasp and drop him in a lifeless heap in the ring.

John Cena talks about CM Punk's pipebomb

When you see someone come into his own like that, it's inspirational. If you go back and watch that, even though Punk directed a lot of those comments toward me, it was almost like an opposing coach watching an all-star player have the game of his life. Like, man, you know you're getting whipped and you know you're going to lose, but you're seeing something great, and something that is going to stand the test of time.

When a guy like that has a night like that – a breakout night like that – I knew that, regardless of how many days CM Punk had been in WWE, now CM Punk is a household name. That very day. And since then, he has totally taken the ball and ran with it, and that was his whole original concept behind why he was saying what he was saying. 'Listen, I have talent. You guys are overlooking me. This is what I'm upset about. Could somebody please give me a shot?' And when he gets his shot, he becomes the WWE Champion – and keeps the WWE Championship. I was motivated, excited, and it's certainly a piece of the WWE timeline that nobody will ever forget.

John Laurinaitis refused to make a quiet exit. Sporting a neck brace and crutches, the former General Manager and Executive Vice President of Talent Relations repeatedly called members of the WWE Universe "losers" because they've lost "People Power." After making his entrance, Big Show thanked Laurinaitis for signing him to an ironclad contract and the big, fat bonus, but stated there's no reason The World's Largest Athlete should be in the ring tonight. Big Show then left Laurinaitis and David Otunga high and dry, making it a 2-on-1 Handicap Match against John Cena instead. (PHOTOS |VIDEO)

(READ MORE: WAS BIG SHOW RIGHT TO ABANDON BIG JOHNNY?)

It was all Otunga in the early going as The A-Lister tossed Cena hard into the steel ringside steps and bowled over the Cenation leader with a big running shoulder block. Laurinaitis' farewell match took a turn for the worse, however, after Big Johnny tagged in and started to pile on Cena. It was then that Otunga stunned his old boss by refusing to tag back in and taking a walk, becoming the second Superstar to leave Laurinaitis hanging in the main event.

From there, it was pain on top of humiliating pain for Big Johnny. The Cenation leader hit Laurinaitis with the Five-Knuckle Shuffle and slammed him to the canvas with an Attitude Adjustment, but he wasn't done yet. Pointing to former SmackDown GM Theodore Long, who was sitting ringside, Cena dropped Laurinaitis with another A.A., then a third one for good measure at the cheering fans' request. Finally, Cena put an end to Laurinaitis' misery as he made him tap out with the STF.

It was a farewell address – and beating – that the WWE Universe won't soon forget.

John Cena, WWE star, grants a record 300th request for Make-A-Wish

There are always plenty of candidates for top sports celebrity bad guy: LeBron, Tiger, T.O., Roger Clemens, and on and on.
But what about top sports good guy? Those names don't come to mind quite as easily. Even beloved athletes such as Tim Tebow and Derek Jeter have detractors.
But by one important measure, there is a runaway favorite.
John Cena.
Pro wrestler John Cena granted his 300th Make-A-Wish request to a 7-year-old boy.The pro wrestling superstar granted his 300th Make-A-Wish request to a 7-year-old Pennsylvania boy named Jonny Littman earlier this week. That's far and away tops among sports celebrities.
(Pause here for those who don't think pro wrestling is a sport. It's not. But tell that to a sick child. And, by the way, throwing a 250-pound man across a ring 300 nights a year constitutes athleticism of some sort.)
Only a few other sports stars have granted more than 200 wishes, including Hulk Hogan, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Michael Jordan is in the 200 neighborhood and Kobe Bryant has granted more than 100. (More than 50 wishes will be granted at the London Olympics.) Cena raced past 300 and he fully intends on getting to 1,000.
How popular is Cena with Make-A-Wish? There's a conference room dedicated to him at the company headquarters in Arizona.
"Overall, I get 100-140 WWE wish requests a year," said Shaina Reeser, sports program manager at Make-A-Wish, "and the majority is for John Cena. He probably does two or three kids every week. It's crazy."
Cena never says no. Even though his schedule is tougher than most stars – there are no home games and there's no off-season – he unfailingly builds in time for Wish kids. WWE rep Kevin Hennessey even says Cena's 300th wish was so important that his bosses rearranged his entire schedule for it.
It's not that other athletes are cold-hearted. Pretty much everyone says yes to Make-A-Wish every time. (In fact, LeBron, Tiger, T.O. and Clemens have all done over-the-top wishes for kids across the country.) But sometimes schedules conflict or an athlete can't be in the area where his wish kid lives. And, sadly, because of illness and the course of treatment, wish kids don't always have a lot of time to wait for their favorite athletes to become free. One of the big myths about Make-A-Wish is that children pass away from their illnesses; many make a full recovery. The only requirement for a wish kid is a life-threatening condition. But that usually entails severe hardship not only physically but financially. Families spend so much on care and medical bills that they can't afford over-the-top presents. That's where Make-A-Wish comes in. And that's where celebs like John Cena come through.
"He has been a big supporter of us forever," said Make-A-Wish national communications manager Mark Hiegel. "By this time next year, he'll have 400."
And while some heroes do a simple meet-and-greet, Cena turns the Wish into an experience. He usually invites the child to Monday Night Raw, where he takes the entire family backstage, gives them all signed memorabilia and introduces them to other WWE stars. That's what he did for Jonny Littman on Monday in New York. But then Cena followed up with a surprise visit the next day on Good Morning America.
That's by far the best part of the Make-A-Wish day – the surprise. Kids sometimes get shy and sometimes beam for hours, but they all forget for a while about the next hospital visit or the next round of chemo.
"He gets the kids out of their shells," Reeser said of Cena. "He's every good at asking questions, pulling information out of them. There's always a huge smile and their eyes light up. The more outgoing kids will say Cena's phrase, which is 'You can't see me.' "
But that's just it. A sick kid can see Cena. He makes sure of it.

What Happened After RAW

After Monday's RAW Supershow went off the air, John Cena called out The Big Show. Johnny Laurinaitis came out and announced a handicap match featuring Cena vs. him, David Otunga and the Big Show. Big Show never tagged in during the match. Cena pinned Otunga and nailed the AA on Laurinaitis to end the show.

WWE RAW results [June 4,2012]

Before the match, Laurinaitis announced that Cena vs. Cole would be a No Disqualification Match, only provided that Cena could defeat Tensai first. It was music to Michael Cole's ears, but the announcer still looked mighty anxious as he repeatedly urged the Japanese warrior to inflict more and more punishment on Cena. Tensai complied by slamming the Cenation leader into the announce table and steel ring steps as Cole taunted Cena the entire time (and even slapped him across the face).

Battered and bruised by Tensai's relentless attack, Cena somehow found the energy to rally back, feeding off the energy of the enthusiastic crowd. The 10-time WWE Champion kept Tensai reeling with a Five-Knuckle Shuffle and followed with an awesome Attitude Adjustment for the 1-2-3.(PHOTOS VIDEO )

Cena took a moment to soak in his very first win over the previously undefeated Tensai, but his night wasn't through yet. Next up was Cole, who tried to make peace with Cena before changing his tune and verbally lambasting the Cenation leader. Talk about a bad move. Cena stripped the pants off the polarizing announcer and stomped him where the sun don't shine. After laying into Cole repeatedly with slaps that echoed throughout the arena, Cena forced Cole to apologize to both Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross for belittling them.

Cena wasn't finished there – not by a long shot. He proceeded to coat Cole with bottles of JR's barbecue sauce and sprayed him all over with a fire extinguisher. But Tensai came back into the ring and saved Cole from more abuse by planting Cena with a sitdown powerbomb.

Sensing an opportunity to pull off a massive upset, Cole made the cover but was only able to get a two-count on Cena. After surviving the close call, Cena powered back, pinned Cole and humiliated him some more to the delight of the WWE Universe as the show came to a close. (PHOTOS | VIDEO)

3 John Cena

The Cenation leader may not have been in the building Monday night, but his absence was certainly felt. Without Cena there, Raw SuperShow spiraled into chaos as Big Show was free to rampage through the roster. Cena holds fast in the top five this week, but that may change depending on how he responds next week in his return to Raw.

John Cena on Smackdown tapings

– John Cena has been added to Tuesday night’s SmackDown taping in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Cena is being advertised for a main event dark match against Big Show.

WWE is also adding Cena to other SmackDown tapings, primarily to boost ticket sales. He is advertised for the lead-in taping to No Way Out in two weeks as well as the taping after the PPV and next two after that, one of which is the next live SmackDown on July 3rd.

WWE.com article: Title reign length or reign count: What's more impressive?

What is the barometer of greatness for a champion in WWE? Some argue that it's how many title reigns you can rack up, which proves your staying power in the championship picture for a long period of time. Others say it's the quality, not the quantity of a reign that matters; that keeping the title around your waist for months upon months (or possibly years) is the way to be remembered as a dominant champion.

While a strong case can be made on either side of this debate, WWE.com wants to know for sure: What is the true test of a champion's greatness?

Now that WWE Champion CM Punk's reign has stretched to WWE's longest in four years, it's an opportune time to lay out all of the talking points in an attempt to settle the score. Who better to lend opinions on the matter than WWE Superstars who have all risen to championship glory?

In this WWE.com exclusive, find out what John Cena, Daniel Bryan, Christian, The Miz and Booker T think as we present compelling viewpoints for reign length and reign count. Once you've read both arguments, cast your vote in WWE.com's poll and let your voice be heard.

Here’s the dirty little secret about being a 10-time champion: you had to win the title 10 times.

It’s a nasty technicality that rarely goes mentioned when discussing multiple title reigns – and by the way, we’re pretty sure the total number of WWE.com championship reigns tops out at zero – but the fact remains that a Superstar who holds his title for a longer period of time was, quite frankly, less susceptible to defeat than one who had to fight tooth and nail to claim the prize time and time again. It takes a special Superstar to win a championship, to be sure, but there’s something to be said for the perseverance, skill or cleverness of one who won the title and kept it for a long reign.

“I think it's been proven that anybody can win a title given the right circumstances,” Daniel Bryan told WWE.com. “But whether you keep that title, that's the mark of a true champion.” Bryan held the World Heavyweight Championship for four months, and has recently been in the mix for CM Punk’s WWE Title, although he has yet to claim that title for himself.

It’s fair to mention that WWE’s “Yes!” man might be postulating just a bit, given the opportunistic methods with which he both won and retained the World Title. But there’s something to be said for a champion’s resilience, as well as the value of adapting to different situations.

The three longest World Title reigns in WWE history belong to three infamously ruthless Superstars – Batista, Triple H and Kane – known for pursuing victory by any means necessary. In that same vein, while some may call Bryan’s Steel Cage victory over Mark Henry and Big Show at the 2012 Royal Rumble – via escape rather than pinfall – the “coward’s way out,” it’s equally valid to say it was his best opportunity to remain at the mountaintop. And a champion, above all things, must keep his title safe.

John Cena, who has straddled both sides of the issue himself (he’s a 10-time WWE Champion, with several long reigns to his name), also sided firmly with the importance of a longer run at the top. “Having a longer title reign means you [competed at a top level] for a longer period of time,” Cena said.

There’s also the issue of standing tall in the face of repeated challenges for the championship. After all, everyone’s always trying to take down the top dog.

“When you have a title, you have a target on your back,” The Miz told WWE.com of the pressures of a championship. The Awesome One is certainly qualified to speak on long reigns; he holds the second-longest U.S. Championship reign since the title came to WWE, and he has the second-longest WWE Title reign of the last four years at, by his count, 160 days (current champ CM Punk has the first).

And it’s safe to say that, despite his recent woes, Miz isn’t looking for several quickie runs at the top when he makes his way back into the championship picture. The Awesome One wants respect, and he’ll earn it with the longer he holds the ultimate prize.

“It's more respectable to have longer reigns,” he said. “If you have it 50 times, that means you've lost the title 50 times. Congratulations. I've only lost the WWE Title once. But when I get it back, I won't ever lose it again.”

While lengthy championship reigns are certainly impressive, the true mark of greatness in WWE could lie with Superstars who have withstood the test of time and amassed a number of different titles over the course of their careers. Literally worn as badges of honor, championships collected by Superstars serve as “notches in their belts” — physical representations of battles fought and won.

Having a multitude of title reigns demonstrates that a Superstar is capable of dominance in a variety of situations over many years and proven in arguably the most crucial quality when discussing the greatest competitors in any sport — longevity.

Holding numerous titles is synonymous with durability and endurance, helping to solidify a Superstar’s relevance through generations and cement his place in WWE lore. Sure, long title reigns are a signifier of one’s ability at a particular moment in time, but does anyone really care about the one-time NFL rushing leader, or the plethora of Major League Baseball players who had that one great year and hit 40 home runs?

No, true fans remember players like Emmitt Smith, the Hall of Fame running back for the Dallas Cowboys who racked up four NFL rushing titles in his career, and MLB Hall of Famer Hank Aaron, who averaged 33 home runs over the course of his 23-year career.

While flashes can be appealing in any competitive environment, the true legends are those who manage to produce year after year on the big stage.

“Winning one [title] is great for your career as you put yourself in the history books with all the great champions,” five-time WCW Champion Booker T says, “But if you win multiple championships, it goes to one’s character as far as what he puts into the business.”

WWE Universe members hold Superstars like Ric Flair and John Cena in the highest regard because of the sheer number of times they held championship gold. Their multiple reigns span decades and endear both Superstars to WWE Universe members in different generations.

“The Nature Boy” accrued 16 World Heavyweight Championships during his illustrious career and held titles in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, ensuring that fathers and sons could share memories of “The Dirtiest Player in the Game” at the top of his game.

Likewise, John Cena has held the WWE Championship 10 times, a staggering statistic that gives the Cenation leader the distinct honor of holding that illustrious title more times than anyone else in WWE history.

“It’s easy to lose it,” Booker T added, “But to go back and gain it five times showed how hungry I was and how badly I really wanted to be on top as that franchise player for the company. That’s why I respect guys like John Cena.”

To that point, with 31 championship reigns to his name, Edge is one of the greatest performers the squared circle has ever known. One of just three Superstars to hold every active WWE prize — Kurt Angle and Big Show being the other two — it was prophetic when The Rated-R Superstar was voted “Most Likely to Be WWE Champion” back in high school. Perhaps it should have been, “Most Likely to Rack up Titles.”

Edge’s list of accolades includes four separate reigns as WWE Champion, seven as World Heavyweight Champion, five as Intercontinental Champion, and a staggering total of 14 tag titles, clearly showing that the WWE Hall of Famer possessed the ability to succeed in whatever he did inside the squared circle.

Edge’s best friend and the current Intercontinental Champion, Christian, says of multiple title reigns, “It’s a real sense of accomplishment, especially for guys who grew up as fans in awe of champions and who pretended to be champions and made their own titles when they were kids. To actually grow up and win those titles and to hold them means a lot.”

There’s no disputing that any title reign is worthy of the utmost respect, but a Superstar’s true meddle is earned through holding multiple titles and proving that they can endure through time.

3 John Cena

At WWE Over the Limit, John Cena was poised to end John Laurinaitis’ run at the helm of Raw and SmackDown. But in a stunning move, Big Show emerged to thwart the best laid plans. If Cena can’t stop the Laurinaitis train from rolling on, who can?

WWE No Way Out 2012 preview

John Cena vs. Big Show

As the saying goes, desperate times call for desperate measures, and it’s hard to argue that Big Show was anything other than desperate when he jumped ship to People Power and allowed John Laurinaitis to save his own job a mere six days after Big Johnny callously terminated the giant on Raw SuperShow.

Big Show’s appearance at WWE Over the Limit was meant to herald the death bell for Laurinaitis’ much-maligned movement, but the giant planted his signature WMD against the face of John Cena instead, helping Mr. Excitement retain his job and keep People Power chugging along. (WATCH: BIG SHOW & SUPERSTARS REACT) And with The World’s Largest Athlete reinstated by a grateful Laurinaitis and Cena looking to settle the score, it’s only right that the two should face off one-on-one at No Way Out.

Cena and Big Show have, it should be noted, a more contentious history than the WWE Universe might remember. The giant famously chokeslammed Cena through a spotlight at Backlash 2009 (WATCH), and The World’s Largest Athlete clashed with The Cenation Leader over the United States Championship at WrestleMania XX (Cena won that contest, relieving the giant of the title). Big Show had worked prior to Over the Limit at keeping the WWE Universe in his good graces, but as the giant announced on Raw SuperShow the night after Over the Limit, he seems to feel his efforts have been unreciprocated.

Show claimed that Cena and the WWE Universe were not qualified to judge him, and his decision was made for love of the business and the security of his new, "ironclad" contract. He did what he had to do, despite the steepness of the price.

The price may yet get steeper, though. With Cena’s nemesis still running the show, and with a 7-foot wrecking ball at his disposal to boot, Cena is looking to make Show answer for his actions. After all, as the other saying goes, what goes around comes around, and The World’s Largest Athlete might well find it’s time to pay the piper when he meets Cena one-on-one.

John Cena called out Big Show; match made for No Way Out
One look at John Cena's face and you could tell this is a dark day for the Cenation leader. Cena opened the show in a state of rage and frustration over his loss to Laurinaitis at WWE Over the Limit. Cena, although clearly embarrassed by the defeat, fired back at his doubters who wondered why Cena took his time humiliating the General Manager during their contest. Cena then called out Big Show, claiming he sold out by coming to Laurinaitis' aid and ruined the prime opportunity to get Laurinaitis terminated. (PHOTOS | VIDEO)
Executive Administrator Eve interrupted the Cenation leader to introduce Laurinaitis, who sputtered out onto the stage aboard a "People Power" scooter (perhaps we'll see that sold on an infomercial soon?). The GM cited his potential serious injuries that he sustained during his match against Cena and reminded WWE Superstars that they risk immediate termination if they lay a finger on him moving forward. Laurinaitis then announced that Cena will face the rehired Big Show at the No Way Out pay-per-view on June 17! (MATCH PREVIEW)
The World's Largest Athlete refused to apologize for his actions at WWE Over the Limit and said he "did what he had to do" while the crowd chanted, "You're a sellout!" Big Show angrily shouted at Cena for judging him and threatened to knock him out at No Way Out. As Big Show stormed off, David Otunga came out and challenged Cena to a match and dedicated the one-on-one contest to Laurinaitis.

John Cena defeated Daid Otunga
With his boss watching on, David Otunga tried his best to impress against John Cena. But Laurinaitis' legal counsel quickly found himself overmatched and tapped out to the STF. Right after the bell rang, chaos erupted as numerous Superstars rushed to the ring and ganged up on Cena. As the Cenation leader struggled to fight back, Sheamus rushed out to back up Cena. As The Great White cleaned house, Laurinaitis announced that the main event would be Raw's first-ever 2-on-3 Handicap Lumberjack Match, with Cena and Sheamus joining forces to face three opponents of the GM's choosing. Power 25 [May 19,2012]

1 John Cena
Heading into Over the Limit, the Cenation Leader has John Laurinaitis right where he wants him. Cena’s health and swagger are back and the match stipulations announced on Raw effectively gave Laurinaitis little more than a puncher’s chance at retaining his role as the General Manager of Raw and SmackDown.
So why did Cena look so upset when "Mr. Excitement" slapped him into silence on Raw? For Cena to win, he’ll need to prevent Laurinaitis from getting under his skin like that again.

WWE Over the Limit 2012 results - May 20,2012

John Laurinaitis def. John Cena

RALEIGH, N.C. — John Laurinatis was done for.

Beaten and battered by an intensely focused John Cena in a match where the megalomaniacal General Manager’s career was on the line, Mr. Laurinaitis was only a three count away from finding himself on the unemployment line. And then something big happened.

Shocking the WWE fans crammed into Raleigh’s PNC Arena, the mighty Big Show stormed into the ring and aided the man who fired him on Monday night in a way the WWE Universe never expected to see.

Had The World’s Largest Athlete not changed the clear outcome of this bout, the landscape of WWE would look a lot different right now. A polarizing figure since he grasped complete power over both Raw and SmackDown, John Laurinaitis stirred up serious controversy when he reintroduced the unpredictable Brock Lesnar to WWE rings. Promoted as the new face of the company by the General Manager, the former MMA fighter went on to nearly end John Cena’s career at WWE Extreme Rules before quitting WWE and then threatening to sue for millions.

As if Mr. Laurinaitis hadn’t created enough of a quagmire, the executive then recruited the dangerous Lord Tensai and his follower, Sakamoto, to aid him in a vicious attack on Cena the night after the Superstar’s showdown with Lesnar. After ruthlessly targeting the Cenation’s leader’s injured arm, a crazed Laurinaitis announced that he would meet Cena one-on-one at WWE Over the Limit.

It may have been the most baffling managerial decision since Mr. McMahon orchestrated the kidnapping of his own daughter during WWE’s “Attitude Era.” A suit-and-tie guy willingly stepping into the ring with a former 10-time WWE Champion? It was madness. Laurinaitis may have once been a respected grappler in the hardnosed world of Japanese professional wrestling, but that was more than a decade ago. Did the executive really think he could hold his own against a man who just stood toe to toe with Brock Lesnar and won?

As it turns out, he did. Well, he did until WWE’s Board of Directors stepped in. Decreeing that not only would John Laurinaitis be fired if he lost the match, but any contracted Superstar who interfered in the bout would also be terminated, the committee stacked the deck against the already in-over-his-head GM.

Clearly lacking confidence after the Board rejected his last minute plea to reverse at least one of the stipulations, (FULL STORY) Laurinaitis sulked to the ring like a man headed down the green mile. If the self-proclaimed Mr. Excitement wasn’t such a conniving egomaniac, the WWE fans may have felt sorry for him. Instead, they cheered John Cena on as he picked apart Mr. Laurinaitis in a bout that resembled more of a televised mugging than a sports-entertainment showdown.

Cena took slow pleasure in manhandling the executive who orchestrated a vicious attack on him as he dumped a garbage can over Big Johnny’s head, doused him with a fire extinguisher, and locked him in the STF for 10-second bursts of brutality. When Laurinaitis briefly mounted a comeback by grabbing a steel chair, he paid the price when Cena drove the hunk of metal right into his red face.

The General Manager’s night only got worse when the man he fired on Monday night — Big Show — suddenly appeared among the WWE fans in the PNC Arena and dragged a retreating Laurinaitis back to the squared circle by his neck. Surrounded on both sides by the Cenation leader and The World’s Largest Athlete, the executive was clearly done for. And then it happened.

With Laurinaitis propped on Cena’s shoulders, only moments away from feeling the AA, Big Show drove his Thor’s hammer of a fist directly into Cena’s jaw. It was the last thing the WWE Universe expected to see from the giant who was humiliated by the GM, but there was no mistaking what had happened. The World’s Largest Athlete deliberately K.O.’d the Cenation leader and saved John Laurinaitis' career. And since Show wasn't a contracted Superstar, there was nothing WWE's Board of Directors could do about it.

Was the attack a gutsy move by Big Show, done deliberately to save his own career? Or was it part of a beautifully constructed plot, pieced together by Mr. Laurinaitis and his sharp advisers in David Otunga and Eve? Whatever it was, there will be hell to pay when John Cena arrives on Raw.

After RAW went off air

After RAW went off the air, John Cena left the ring and went to the back.

The dark match was up next featuring CM Punk defending the WWE Championship against Chris Jericho. Punk defeated Jericho clean with the GTS.

Cena was then back out, and he teamed with Sheamus and Randy Orton to defeat Lord Tensai, Dolph Ziggler and Kane after Cena pinned Ziggler. After the match, all the faces hit their finishers on Ziggler.

When John Laurinaitis called John Cena and his WWE Universe supporters "losers," Cena emerged to give the GM an earful. As he analyzed Laurinaitis’ achievements in his backstabbing rise to GM, Cena concluded the GM is nothing but a loser himself.

After riling the WWE Universe up about the potential beating coming to the GM at Over the Limit, the GM’s Executive Administrator Eve came to the ring with a letter in her hand.

But before the GM could read the letter, Cena ripped it from his hands to reveal some shocking stipulations directly from the WWE Board of Directors:

“Your match with Mr. Cena will be one-on-one. There will be no special guest referee. No one is allowed at ringside. The only way to win is by pinfall or submission. Any Superstar who interferes in the match will be immediately terminated … Should you, Mr. Laurinaitis, lose this match to John Cena, then you will be officially terminated.”

With the stunning news, the WWE Universe exploded in approval. Then, when Cena questioned what major announcement the GM was reported to be making that would change the future of WWE, the GM slapped Cena and walked out of the ring and up the ramp.

How will Cena respond when he goes one-on-one with Laurinaitis this Sunday? (MATCH PREVIEW)

Power 25 [May 25,2012]

1 John Cena
Appearing live via satellite on Raw, John Cena updated the WWE Universe about his arm injury. Although a group of doctors strongly recommended he not compete for the next couple of months, Cena was adamant about ignoring their advice and fully plans to face John Laurinaitis at WWE Over the Limit.
As each week goes by, it seems more and more members of the WWE Universe have had enough of Raw and SmackDown General Manager John Laurinaitis. Could Cena win back the love of some of his past supporters at Over the Limit if he can beat the GM?

10 instances of Superstars going Over the Limit

Nexus attacks

Long before Daniel Bryan’s “Yes!” reverberated through arenas or Wade Barrett set out on his “barrage,” the Superstars previously known best as NXT Season 1 rookies established themselves as the original Nexus by viciously assaulting John Cena during his match against CM Punk on the June 7, 2010, edition of Raw.
The incident was one of those rare examples when the Raw broadcast appeared to come completely off its hinges. The fact that eight relative unknowns (including current Superstars Justin Gabriel and Darren Young, to name a few) would team up to go after WWE’s alpha dog was surprising enough. Even more startling was that their ambush didn’t end with Cena.
Then under the guidance of Barrett, The Nexus members took out their anger on everyone who was within swinging distance. They assaulted commentators Jerry “The King” Lawler and Matt Striker, as well as tore up the ring, trashed the broadcast tables and broke the protective barriers around ringside.

By the time Nexus ultimately disbanded in 2011, the group had inflicted its wrath on countless occasions. Still, no other incident quite compares to their jumping Cena on Raw.

Eight Man Tag Team Match for June 11th edition of RAW

Eight-man tag action with John Cena, CM Punk, Sheamus and Randy Orton vs. Lord Tensai, Kane, Alberto Del Rio and Daniel Bryan is being advertised for the next three-hour RAW Supershow on June 11th from the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut.

Cody Rhodes: What He Has Learned From John Cena

Learning from John Cena:
“I spent a year driving Cena around when I was on the Raw brand. The goal was to learn a lot about him, what he does in the ring, how he has gotten where he has gotten, but also to learn a lot about merchandising and marketing, pretty much all the things he does. And I’d say I learned a great deal on what it takes outside of the ring. He’s noted as being one of the most hard-working people in entertainment, and he is. If you want his job, you have to work as hard as he does. And it is much easier said than done.”

10 finisher combos

Trifecta name: “Iconic Annihilation”

Every competitor that steps into a WWE ring arrives with a repertoire designed to weaken an opponent to the point where they are vulnerable to a knockout blow. The eras may change and the memories of past Superstars may fade, but the recipe remains the same.
To demonstrate the timeless quality of Superstar finishers, try this example of “Iconic Annihilation” on for size. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin leads off by showing some attitude to his opponent with a Stunner, while John Cena follows the notion with his own Attitude Adjustment. The momentum from their maneuvers would then turn back the clock as Hulk Hogan arrives to launch his signature leg drop on their lifeless foe.

Superstars Assemble: WWE's Super Teams

Team WWE (2010)
Following the first season of WWE NXT, Wade Barrett immediately formed The Nexus with his fellow Rookies, and took WWE by storm with a brazen attack on John Cena. Daniel Bryan, one of the group’s members, felt remorse for the assault and was unceremoniously dismissed. For more than two months, The Nexus made their presence felt throughout WWE, complaining about the treatment they received on NXT and focusing their attacks on Cena. After refusing offers to join the group, Cena formed a super team of WWE’s best who had all been victims of The Nexus – Edge, Chris Jericho, John Morrison, R-Truth, The Great Khali and WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart. Team WWE was set to face off with The Nexus in a massive Elimination Match at SummerSlam, but the former Rookies eliminated Khali from the equation. Seemingly down a Superstar, John Cena revealed that the final member of Team WWE was none other than the returning Bryan. The contest came down to the two leaders, John Cena and Wade Barrett, who submitted to Cena’s STF – a critical win that halted The Nexus’ momentum in WWE. (WATCH)
