WWE Night of Champions 2012 results [September 16,2012]

BOSTON – WWE Champion John Cena and CM Punk used every tool in their respective arsenals as they battled to determine which Superstar was truly “Best in the World” in front of the Cenation leader’s hometown Boston crowd. Ultimately, it was Cena’s impressive top rope German suplex that would conclude this brutal bout. Yet, it wasn’t Cena’s arm that was raised in victory at the end of the night.
After Cena began celebrating what appeared to be his 11th WWE Championship victory, referee Chad Patton noted that Cena’s shoulders were also flat on the canvas as the Cenation leader had Punk in a pinned. As explained by ring announcer Justin Roberts, the match had officially ended in a draw … with CM Punk retaining the WWE Title. (PHOTOS)
The smirk that Punk wore at the end of the night as he strode up the entrance ramp – WWE Title and Paul Heyman in tow – mirrored the one he wore at the beginning of the bout. Clad in first place New York Yankees–esque pinstripes to rile up the last place Boston Red Sox faithful in attendance, The Straight Edge Superstar set a deliberate pace as he kept his powerhouse opponent off his feet. By taking Cena’s size advantage out of the equation, Punk clearly surmised, the bout would be a manner of wearing Cena down before finishing him off with a Go to Sleep or his signature submission hold, the Anaconda Vise.
The tactic was working, inspiring guest commentator John “Bradshaw” Layfield to note that Punk was wrestling a “perfect match” and had gone into this bout with a thought-out game plan. Every time Cena tried to shift momentum, whether with a series of shoulder tackles or with his Five Knuckle Shuffle fist drop, Punk was seemingly one step ahead. Heyman, whose current association with The Second City Saint has yet to be revealed, looked on approvingly from ringside.
As Punk tried to wear down the challenger with submission after submission, it was Cena’s pure strength that helped the Cenation leader escape Punk’s holds, much to the delight of Cena’s family watching the action from the front row. Cena was not only driven by a desire to once again hoist the WWE Title above his head, but he was also determined to end Punk’s aggressive and dangerous quest for respect at any cost. Would that desire be enough, though?
After gaining the upper hand in a brutal back-and-forth brawl, Punk seemed to signal an early victory when he ascended the turnbuckle and flew through the air, driving a savage elbow directly into Cena’s heart. The Second City Saint followed up his aerial feat with the Go to Sleep, the very move that twice put Cena away in their now-iconic WWE Championship clashes at Money in the Bank and SummerSlam the previous year. However, this time, Cena kicked out of the GTS, much to the disbelief of the WWE Universe, the announce team and, yes, Paul Heyman. It was at this point that frustration began to show on the face of the WWE Champion. Having pulled out all the stops, Punk regained control, but only momentarily, as he soon fell victim to both the Five Knuckle Shuffle and the Attitude Adjustment. Just as Cena had astonishingly kicked out of the GTS, so too had Punk outlasted Cena’s signature maneuver.
It was at this point in the bout that both Superstars began employing even riskier attacks, with Cena executing an aerial leg drop and Punk taking to the sky with a poorly scouted moonsault. Punk then countered yet another Attitude Adjustment attempt into a Go to Sleep, which Cena again kicked out of. Increasingly agitated, Punk went outside of his own arsenal and attempted to silence Cena with a Rock Bottom – The Rock’s very maneuver that defeated Cena at WrestleMania XXVIII — but even such mind games would not fell the indomitable Cena, who caught Punk in yet another Attitude Adjustment. As the WWE Universe looked on with bated breath, Punk stayed alive by kicking out before the three-count.
Exhausted, battered and desperate, both Superstars traded blows atop one of the turnbuckles for a moment that had the WWE Universe packed inside Boston’s TD Garden and watching around the world wincing in anticipation of an imminent ring-shaking impact. However, no one could have seen what happened next.
With Punk perched on the top rope, Cena threw Punk backward in a stunning German suplex, a move that seemed to signal victory for the West Newbury, Mass., native. However, as the pink-and-black clad ring warrior’s entrance music blared throughout the arena, Cena’s victory celebration was cut painfully short as referee Chad Patton’s ruling was made public: Both Superstars’ shoulders were pinned to the mat when the three-count was made, thus ending the bout in a draw. As a result, Punk’s 300-plus day WWE Title reign rolled on. Not content with merely besting Cena, Punk laid out the then-unsuspecting Cenation leader by striking the challenger with the WWE Title itself. “Respect” indeed. (WATCH: CHAD PATTON EXCLUSIVE)
Punk’s crusade for respect has been about more than the WWE Championship, and it’s unlikely that he’s going to be satisfied by his victory at Night of Champions. As for Punk’s association with the Original ECW founder, this “Paul Heyman guy” is keeping us all guessing.
But what of Cena? It remains to be seen how The Cenation Commander-in-Chief will respond to this controversial hometown defeat, but as is always the case with the Superstar that truly personifies “hustle,” “loyalty” and, yes, “respect,” Cena won’t take this disappointment lying down.

As the saying goes, desperate times call for desperate measures, and it’s hard to argue that Big Show was anything other than desperate when he jumped ship to People Power and allowed John Laurinaitis to save his own job a mere six days after Big Johnny callously terminated the giant on Raw SuperShow.

Big Show’s appearance at WWE Over the Limit was meant to herald the death bell for Laurinaitis’ much-maligned movement, but the giant planted his signature WMD against the face of John Cena instead, helping Mr. Excitement retain his job and keep People Power chugging along. (WATCH: BIG SHOW & SUPERSTARS REACT) And with The World’s Largest Athlete reinstated by a grateful Laurinaitis and Cena looking to settle the score, it’s only right that the two should face off one-on-one at No Way Out.

Cena and Big Show have, it should be noted, a more contentious history than the WWE Universe might remember. The giant famously chokeslammed Cena through a spotlight at Backlash 2009 (WATCH), and The World’s Largest Athlete clashed with The Cenation Leader over the United States Championship at WrestleMania XX (Cena won that contest, relieving the giant of the title). Big Show had worked prior to Over the Limit at keeping the WWE Universe in his good graces, but as the giant announced on Raw SuperShow the night after Over the Limit, he seems to feel his efforts have been unreciprocated.

Show claimed that Cena and the WWE Universe were not qualified to judge him, and his decision was made for love of the business and the security of his new, "ironclad" contract. He did what he had to do, despite the steepness of the price.

The price may yet get steeper, though. With Cena’s nemesis still running the show, and with a 7-foot wrecking ball at his disposal to boot, Cena is looking to make Show answer for his actions. After all, as the other saying goes, what goes around comes around, and The World’s Largest Athlete might well find it’s time to pay the piper when he meets Cena one-on-one.

RALEIGH, N.C. — John Laurinatis was done for.

Beaten and battered by an intensely focused John Cena in a match where the megalomaniacal General Manager’s career was on the line, Mr. Laurinaitis was only a three count away from finding himself on the unemployment line. And then something big happened.

Shocking the WWE fans crammed into Raleigh’s PNC Arena, the mighty Big Show stormed into the ring and aided the man who fired him on Monday night in a way the WWE Universe never expected to see.

Had The World’s Largest Athlete not changed the clear outcome of this bout, the landscape of WWE would look a lot different right now. A polarizing figure since he grasped complete power over both Raw and SmackDown, John Laurinaitis stirred up serious controversy when he reintroduced the unpredictable Brock Lesnar to WWE rings. Promoted as the new face of the company by the General Manager, the former MMA fighter went on to nearly end John Cena’s career at WWE Extreme Rules before quitting WWE and then threatening to sue for millions.

As if Mr. Laurinaitis hadn’t created enough of a quagmire, the executive then recruited the dangerous Lord Tensai and his follower, Sakamoto, to aid him in a vicious attack on Cena the night after the Superstar’s showdown with Lesnar. After ruthlessly targeting the Cenation’s leader’s injured arm, a crazed Laurinaitis announced that he would meet Cena one-on-one at WWE Over the Limit.


It may have been the most baffling managerial decision since Mr. McMahon orchestrated the kidnapping of his own daughter during WWE’s “Attitude Era.” A suit-and-tie guy willingly stepping into the ring with a former 10-time WWE Champion? It was madness. Laurinaitis may have once been a respected grappler in the hardnosed world of Japanese professional wrestling, but that was more than a decade ago. Did the executive really think he could hold his own against a man who just stood toe to toe with Brock Lesnar and won?

As it turns out, he did. Well, he did until WWE’s Board of Directors stepped in. Decreeing that not only would John Laurinaitis be fired if he lost the match, but any contracted Superstar who interfered in the bout would also be terminated, the committee stacked the deck against the already in-over-his-head GM.

Clearly lacking confidence after the Board rejected his last minute plea to reverse at least one of the stipulations, (FULL STORY) Laurinaitis sulked to the ring like a man headed down the green mile. If the self-proclaimed Mr. Excitement wasn’t such a conniving egomaniac, the WWE fans may have felt sorry for him. Instead, they cheered John Cena on as he picked apart Mr. Laurinaitis in a bout that resembled more of a televised mugging than a sports-entertainment showdown.



Cena took slow pleasure in manhandling the executive who orchestrated a vicious attack on him as he dumped a garbage can over Big Johnny’s head, doused him with a fire extinguisher, and locked him in the STF for 10-second bursts of brutality. When Laurinaitis briefly mounted a comeback by grabbing a steel chair, he paid the price when Cena drove the hunk of metal right into his red face.

The General Manager’s night only got worse when the man he fired on Monday night — Big Show — suddenly appeared among the WWE fans in the PNC Arena and dragged a retreating Laurinaitis back to the squared circle by his neck. Surrounded on both sides by the Cenation leader and The World’s Largest Athlete, the executive was clearly done for. And then it happened.

With Laurinaitis propped on Cena’s shoulders, only moments away from feeling the AA, Big Show drove his Thor’s hammer of a fist directly into Cena’s jaw. It was the last thing the WWE Universe expected to see from the giant who was humiliated by the GM, but there was no mistaking what had happened. The World’s Largest Athlete deliberately K.O.’d the Cenation leader and saved John Laurinaitis' career. And since Show wasn't a contracted Superstar, there was nothing WWE's Board of Directors could do about it.

Was the attack a gutsy move by Big Show, done deliberately to save his own career? Or was it part of a beautifully constructed plot, pieced together by Mr. Laurinaitis and his sharp advisers in David Otunga and Eve? Whatever it was, there will be hell to pay when John Cena arrives on Raw.

Before John Cena went to war with Brock Lesnar at Extreme Rules, he accused Raw and SmackDown General Manager John Laurinaitis of trying to put him "out of business" by bringing Brock back to WWE.

Now, it looks like the power-hungry GM wants to personally eradicate Cena from WWE.

Still nursing the wounds from his punishing clash with Brock, the Cenation leader was asked to meet Laurinaitis in the ring on Raw SuperShow for a face-to-face talk, in which the GM would reveal who Cena's opponent at WWE Over the Limit would be. At first, it appeared that Lord Tensai was Laurinaitis' hand-picked Superstar, but following an unbelievable 3-on-1 assault, the choice became brutally clear: Laurinaitis will be the man who goes one-on-one with Cena on May 20.

On repeated occasions since WrestleMania XXVIII, Laurinaitis made it known which Superstar he believes represents the future of WWE, and it's definitely not Cena. The Raw and SmackDown General Manager proved he's willing to do whatever it takes to keep Brock happy by agreeing to the outrageous contract demands laid out by the behemoth prior to Extreme Rules.

Against all odds, Cena overcame the seemingly-unstoppable Lesnar in an Extreme Rules Match, but it still wasn't enough to convince Laurinaitis that it's the 10-time WWE Champion, not Brock, who rightfully deserves to be called the "face of WWE." Then, in a shocking confrontation on Raw SuperShow, Laurinaitis made his boldest power play yet, attacking and mocking Cena while his left arm was still healing.

Cena isn't the first Superstar to tangle with arguably the most polarizing figure in WWE. It was just a few months ago when WWE Champion CM Punk had it out with Laurinaitis, even going so far as to knock him out with the Go To Sleep on the Jan. 23 edition of Raw SuperShow. However, Laurinaitis didn't let his scuffles with Punk derail his quest to remain the dominant decision-making force on WWE programming, and he later took control of SmackDown in addition to Raw with a resounding victory over Team Teddy at WrestleMania.

At WWE Over the Limit, just three weeks will have passed since Cena's savage battle against Lesnar at Extreme Rules. Will the Cenation leader be able to recover in time for his collision with the Raw and SmackDown GM? In a grisly, torturous and barbaric Extreme Rules Match, the Cenation leader stood blow-for-blow with a veritable fighting machine, hell-bent on reshaping WWE in his chiseled likeness. Lesnar, the man who dismissed the moniker of “Superstar” and vowed to “legitimize” WWE, had very specific plans for his emerald green-teed opponent, who’s long represented the idealistic mores of hustle, loyalty and respect. Under such extreme conditions where literally no rule was more tantamount than to maul, batter and disable your opponent by any means necessary, the hard-hitting beast named Brock aimed to deconstruct John Cena and make him know pain. A human wrecking ball was on the downswing and swooping toward Cena with just enough velocity to demolish a near decade-long legacy as WWE’s most brilliant star. And if The Cenation Commander-in-Chief couldn’t withstand its force, that ball’s trajectory would pummel WWE and require a landscape-wide reimagining – the age of Brock.

But this brave, new world, it would seem, was not meant to be at Extreme Rules.


It was starting to look like the worst month in the career of the jocular, ever-triumphant John Cena. Spinning out of a devastating defeat on The Grandest Stage of Them All to The Rock, the Cenation leader succumbed to the ruthless aggression of a past foe just 24 hours after WrestleMania XXVIII. Brock Lesnar reemerged in WWE after an eight-year hiatus on April 2 and delivered an F-5 that sent all of WWE into a tailspin. (WATCH) The ensuing weeks were progressively worse for Cena as he left Raw wounded, embarrassed and beaten.

And yet, John Cena signed the contract for an anything-goes encounter with an unpredictable individual who returned simply for fame and glory, if not to see his namesake on the marquee of Monday Night Raw.

Wholly committed to WWE – even against the harshly audible disapproval of the crowd around him in Chicago – Cena charged into battle not just for himself, but for an entire universe. Reminiscent of his last pay-per-view bout in the Allstate Arena against red-hot hometown hero CM Punk at Money in the Bank, the 10-time WWE Champion was met by deafening jeers against the callous goliath.

Fueled perhaps by the “Cutting Edge” pep talk from The Rated-R Superstar on Raw SuperShow (WATCH) or maybe by the pair of F-5s (and flagrant low blow) sustained at the hands of Lesnar, Cena arrived in the Windy City without the fear Brock expected he’d instilled. With Edge’s words resonating on the other side of his tight and high fade, Cena’s mind was focused the former UFC champion.



The bell rang and the two collided in the immediate center of the ring, with Lesnar taking Cena down to the mat for a series of wounding blows to the skull. Blood flowed from Brock’s prey as WWE medical technicians tended to The Cenation Commander-in-Chief, who exploded back at his gloved enemy. Still, no haymaker or shoulder tackle could rattle Lesnar, a former Royal Rumble winner and King of the Ring, as he dismantled Cena.

The bloodied lip administered weeks ago by Brock was just a preview of the abuse Lesnar unfurled onto his denim-shorted rival. Systematically cruel, Brock channeled the skillset honed within the octagon by targeting Cena’s body and limbs. After working his left arm, the former mixed martial arts heavyweight hung his foe from the ringpost just above his hightops, while the blood kept pouring. Slowly, it appeared the demands by Lesnar were a mere three-count or submission away.



Toyed with by his much taller aggressor, Cena struggled to regain his footing and found himself countered at every turn, eventually caught in a crushing Kimura Lock atop the steel ringsteps tossed into the squared circle by Brock. Amused by the carnage, Lesnar made a crucial mistake, taking a high risk leap toward an apron-planted Cena. The bloodied Superstar was ready for Brock, who propelled directly into a steel chain-wrapped fist, which drew crimson fluid from Lesnar’s head.

Then, it was ultimately the move derived from Brock’s own F-5 roughly nine years ago – the Attitude Adjustment – that wrought an end to the mayhem. As the world witnessed, there was clearly nothing “running down his leg” like Lesnar teased. Rather, it was adrenaline running through Cena’s bruised body. In the sold-out scene of Chicago’s Allstate Arena, the resilient Cena felled the “wrecking machine” and took the first step toward rebuilding.

While the world waits to learn the fate of John Cena, who alluded to possibly “going away for a while” in the aftermath of the brawl on pay-per-view, the WWE Universe takes solace in knowing there will be no “new face of WWE.”

On the contrary, in the fallout of Extreme Rules 2012, the face of WWE still features a tightly formed salute below the brim of a bright green hat. For now.

Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena

Raw General Manager John Laurinaitis proclaimed Brock Lesnar is the new "face of WWE." Not if John Cena has something to say about it!

Lesnar turned the WWE Universe upside down when he returned to WWE on the April 2 edition of Raw SuperShow and immediately targeted Cena with a devastating F-5. The Cenation leader didn't back down the following week on Raw and responded with an emphatic slap that triggered a near-uncontrollable brawl and left Cena with a busted lip. Little did Cena know he'd later be taking another ride in the whirlwind of the F-5, proving that Lesnar is not only intent on establishing himself as the most dominant WWE Superstar; he wants to dish out punishment every chance he gets, too.
Extreme Rules, one of the most ruthless WWE pay-per-views of the year, will provide the ultimate opportunity for these two to settle their differences in the most brutal of circumstances.
It will be the first WWE in-ring action for Brock since WrestleMania XX on March 14, 2004. In just two years with WWE, Brock tore through some of the biggest and baddest competitors like an oversized wrecking ball and racked up an impressive list of accomplishments, including three WWE Championships, a Royal Rumble victory, and being crowned King of the Ring.
Now, after achieving great success in the world of mixed martial arts, Brock has his wild eyes locked on the very man he tangled with nearly a decade ago. It was early in 2003 when Cena was a cocky, trash-talking performer looking to rise up the ranks of WWE by picking a fight with "The Next Big Thing." Armed with insult-laced raps that got under Brock's skin, Cena continued to antagonize Lesnar until a final showdown for his WWE Title at Backlash on April 27, 2003. (FULL STORY)
Even though the two rivals haven't squared off since, it's very clear that Brock still wants to inflict pain on the 10-Time WWE Champion after all these years. Well, there isn't a more suitable domain to unleash that hunger for pain than at Extreme Rules, which takes place live on pay-per-view April 29 from the Allstate Arena in Chicago.
Coming off a very close loss to The Rock at WrestleMania, Cena will surely be looking to make a powerful statement in what could be the most physically demanding battle of his career. And judging by Brock's recent unpredictable attacks, there's no telling what he's capable of doing on the one night of the year when the entire WWE throws out the rulebook.

WWE WrestleMania 28 results [April 1,2012]

MIAMI – This wasn't just a WrestleMania XXVIII main event one year in the making. It was a "Once in a Lifetime" Match, an epic battle that redefined the legacies of two of WWE's most legendary Superstars.
To put it simply, winning this meant everything for John Cena and The Rock.
All the heated confrontations, personal attacks, and physical aggression that forged one of the bitterest rivalries in history, finally came to a boil on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
In front of a Sun Life Stadium record-crowd of 78,363, the leader of Cenation and The Great One both delivered in the toughest fight of their accomplished careers. But only one man would be able to leave WrestleMania with his head high, knowing he seized the rare opportunity to change how he's remembered for all of eternity.
Before the match even began, excitement filled the air as MGK performed a rousing rendition of his hit song Invincible. MGK left no doubts as to who he was rooting for, saying the WWE Universe was about to see "one of the biggest egos get beat by one of the biggest underdogs," referring to the leader of Cenation as the underdog. Cena strode down the entrance way sporting a brand new green T-shirt emblazoned with his "Rise Above Hate" mantra, and expectedly received a mixed reaction from the WWE Universe.
In another sensational musical performance, Flo Rida matched MGK with his own hit songs, Good Feeling and Wild Ones before The Most Electrifying Man in All of Entertainment emerged as cameras flashed seemingly everywhere throughout Sun Life Stadium. It was clear from that moment on who had the crowd advantage between these two icons.
Shortly after the bell rang, Cena sent The Rock tumbling with a show of power to send an early message to start the contest. The Rock didn't flinch and promptly returned the favor with a shove of his own that tossed Cena down to the canvas. The Great One proved that he didn't miss a beat despite the ring rust, as he executed a couple of hip tosses and a very crafty la magistral rollup for a near-pinfall. Cena looked shocked as he took a breather in the corner of the ring.
The Rock soon asserted more of an early advantage, forcing Cena to roll out of the ring to regroup to a loud chorus of boos from the crowd. But Cena began to build momentum by using his power to wear down The Rock with punishing suplexes and a vice-like bearhug around Rock's midsection. The Brahma Bull then reached down for a second wind and rallied back before both men found themselves laid out by a double clothesline.
The personal nature of the rivalry was on full display when The Rock attempted to mock Cena with his own "You can't see me" hand motion. The decision backfired, however, as Cena caught The Great One with a massive Attitude Adjustment and nearly got a three-count. The Rock soon answered and nailed a vicious Rock Bottom of his own, but couldn't keep Cena down.
As both men started to show signs of fatigue, they began to try whatever it would take to gain an edge in the matchup, including a pair of excruciating submission maneuvers. The Rock slapped on a Sharpshooter, Cena answered by rendering his opponent almost unconscious with an STF. But neither Superstar would give up, proving their outstanding will to win in the face of severe physical and mental exhaustion.
After Rock managed to slip out of an Attitude Adjustment attempt, he nailed the much-anticipated People's Elbow, but it still wouldn't be enough to defeat the leader of Cenation. In a remarkable show of strength, Cena reversed a crossbody from the top rope and lifted The Rock straight into an Attitude Adjustment. Even more remarkably, The Great One somehow kicked out.
With The Brahma Bull on his back in the center of the ring, Cena had his best chance to put his rival away for good and win the exhausting showdown. One mistake -- one moment of ego -- would ruin everything for the leader of Cenation, though. Perhaps still dwelling on the exchange earlier in the match when Rock poked fun at one of his signature gestures, Cena tossed his armband and tried to imitate the People's Elbow to a tee.
Using the extra bit of time to recover, The Rock bounced back to his feet before Cena could execute the maneuver, and drilled him to the mat with a Rock Bottom for the 1… 2… 3!
Hulk Hogan, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, and now John Cena: The Rock has conquered them all on The Grandest Stage of Them All and cemented his legacy as arguably the greatest WWE Superstar of all time.
The expression on Cena's face said it all as he sat in the middle of the entrance way while The Rock raised his fist in celebration, soaking in cheers and more camera flashes from the booming crowd.
Cena could've been set to enjoy a "Once in a Lifetime" victory over The Rock. Instead, he'll have to forever replay the final moments of the match in his mind forever.

MILWAUKEE – Kane walked into Milwaukee's Bradley Center under his own power, but he left in an ambulance. Chairs, ring steps, a table and a wheelchair were all weaponized during the wild fray, which traversed through the arena. In the end, it was a devastating Attitude Adjustment off the top of the ambulance onto a platform many feet below that immobilized Kane long enough for Cena to capture the victory.

Pinfalls and submissions, as well as count-outs and disqualifications, were all out the window Sunday night – the first time in nearly a decade that theWWE Universe bore witness to an Ambulance Match. According to the hellacious affair’s stipulations, the only way to attain victory is by incapacitating the opponent long enough to throw him into the back of an awaiting ambulance and shut the door.

Despite Cena’s vows to “rise above,” Kane’s quest to get Cena to embrace the hate proved effective – albeit to The Big Red Monster’s misfortune – as the Cenation leader unleashed a rarely seen mean streak in defeating the hatemonger.

The bout began at a furious pace, with the two heavyweights immediately taking to the floor and slamming one another into ring barriers. After using his gloved hand to smother Cena, Kane retrieved a wheelchair from beneath the ring and tried to bring Cena’s limp body back to the ambulance. However, the Cenation leader regained his senses midway down the aisle and mustered a comeback.

The two Superstars fought their way through the WWE Universe before returning to ringside, where Cena appeared to find delight in punishing Kane with the steel ring steps. As he attempted to give Kane an Attitude Adjustment off the ring steps through the announce table, The Big Red Monster countered, and thunderously chokeslammed Cena through the table instead.

With Cena seemingly down for the count, Kane placed the righteous Cenation leader onto a gurney and loaded him into the ambulance. Before Kane could shut the door, though, Cena courageously fought his way out of the ambulance and took the fight to the top of the vehicle, where he finally finished off The Big Red Monster with the biggest Attitude Adjustment of all time.

The victory caps off an emotional week for the Cenation leader. After saving Eve from Kane on the Feb. 13, edition of Raw SuperShow, Cena locked lips with Eve, breaking the heart of the wheelchair-bound Ryder and prompting outrage from much of the WWE Universe.  With Kane seemingly behind him, Cena now sets his sights on The Rock, his WrestleMania XXVIII opponent.

With the Cenation leader having finally made good on his promise to overcome Kane, what’s next for The Big Red Monster? After a lengthy disappearance from WWE last year, Kane “resurrected” in December to unearth his campaign of hate. Each time he’s been dealt a significant setback in his WWE career, Kane has managed to re-emerge stronger than before. Is it possible that Cena’s victory will only serve to further enrage the prophet of hate, and if so, what does that mean for other WWE Superstars in the coming months?

One thing is certain at WWE Elimination Chamber on Feb. 19 – someone will be leaving in an ambulance by the end of the night. On the Feb. 6 Raw SuperShow, Interim Raw GM John Laurinaitis announced a rematch between John Cena and Kane. In a move he said the WWE Board of Directors liked, the Interim Raw GM said the rivals will clash in an Ambulance Match.

The rules of an Ambulance Match may be simple, but getting to the final bell will be anything but as there are no pinfalls, submissions, count-outs or disqualifications. To win, a competitor needs to incapacitate his opponent, throw him into the back of a waiting ambulance and shut the door, sending him directly to the nearest medical facility.

Brutal and barbaric, an Ambulance Match at Elimination Chamber may be the only appropriate setting as one of the most intense rivalries the WWE Universe has ever seen reaches its apex.

While some conflicts explode after just one inciting incident, others build slowly and steadily over time. When it comes to Cena and The Big Red Monster Kane, their rivalry has intensified each week for the past few months, with each act of aggression topping its predecessor. In his continued efforts to get Cena to finally embrace the hate, Kane has used those closest to Cena to get his message across.

Kane’s relentless assault on Cena’s friend, Zack Ryder, began on the Jan. 3 episode of Raw SuperShow, when The Devil’s Favorite Demon tried to drag Ryder into the abyss underneath the ring. Luckily, Cena was there to save the day, but that did nothing to quell the monster’s fury.

The next week, Kane chokeslammed Ryder off the loading docks outside the arena, seriously injuring him (WATCH). Then, on the Jan. 23 Raw SuperShow, Kane intensified his attacks, chokeslamming Ryder through the stage and sending the Superstar to a nearby medical facility (WATCH). A visibly furious Cena uncharacteristically snapped, refusing Josh Matthews’ interview request by knocking the microphone out of the announcer’s hand.

The following Sunday at the 25th anniversary of the Royal Rumble, Cena and Kane battled to a double count-out. But it was naïve to think that a ring bell would be enough to stop these two from tearing each other apart. Kane’s constant torment has taken Cena to unchartered territory, revealing a vicious and previously unseen side of the Leader of Cenation, as witnessed on the Jan. 30 episode of Raw. After Eve’s loss to Divas Champion Beth Phoenix, Kane appeared at ringside, terrifying the helpless Diva. An incensed Cena again came to the rescue, continually battering Kane with the steel ring stairs and sending The Devil’s Favorite Demon scurrying through the WWE Universe. (WATCH)

Now, the two powerhouse Superstars prepare to meet at Elimination Chamber, in what will be their most vicious bout yet. A rare stipulation throughout history, the WWE Universe hasn’t witnessed an Ambulance Match since Survivor Series 2003 which, perhaps unsurprisingly, featured Kane. Despite a heroic effort on the part of Shane McMahon during that match, The Big Red Monster’s brutal assault proved too great and it was Kane who slammed shut the ambulance doors on his opponent.

WWE Royal Rumble 2012 results [January 29,2012]

But the action was far from over.

The tooth-and-nail conflict continued within the Scottrade Center, where Kane repeatedly bashed Cena with a steel chair. With Cena down, Kane stormed through the dressing room door of the wheelchair-bound Zack Ryder, and applied his debilitating face claw.

After wheeling Ryder to ringside, The Big Red Monster tossed him in the ring. As The Devil's Favorite Demon stalked his prey, a concerned Eve came rushing to the ring. Despite Eve begging Kane not to hurt Ryder any further, Kane brutally tombstoned the former United States Champion with no hesitation. Then as he turned his attention to Eve, Cena came charging to the ring. Despite his best effort, Cena fell victim to a vicious chokeslam.

After the painful assault, the already-injured Ryder was removed from the ring in a stretcher and taken to a local medical facility (MORE ON RYDER'S CONDITION).

WWE Royal Rumble 2012 preview

In a real-life battle of good versus evil, John Cena will face one of the gravest challenges of his career Jan. 29 when he squares off against Kane at the 25th anniversary of WWE’s Royal Rumble event. Devoid of championship implications, yet worlds removed from being a matter of simple bragging rights, this main-event-caliber showdown had been constructed around a single, base emotion: hate.

Now that Kane’s plan to “spread the hate” has ensnared Cena’s good friend Zack Ryder, however, another emotion has potentially been added to the mix for the Cenation leader: guilt. With Kane having attacked and seriously injured the United States Champion, Cena heads into the Royal Rumble event painfully aware that his rivalry with Kane has already brought harm upon one close ally.

Long before Ryder became entangled, though, this was a matter all about hate. On one side of the equation is the righteous Cena, who proudly advocates a “Rise Above” mentality whenever the topic is broached. On the other side is hate incarnate, the restrengthened Big Red Machine, who has been a destructive force without peer since resurfacing – with mask – last December.

Although these two Superstars have faced off before, their upcoming bout at the Royal Rumble is made unique by this compelling piece of subtext, which, it must be noted, came about because of the WWE Universe’s mixed response to Cena.

For years, Cena has served as WWE’s ever-so-marketable face. As such, there have been precious few moments in time when his back hasn’t had a bull’s-eye on it. Fragmented by dueling chants of “Let’s Go Cena” and “Cena Sucks,” the WWE Universe has grown accustomed to seeing the polarizing Superstar turn back one opponent after another.

The Devil’s Favorite Demon, though, appears to have shaken Cena to the core with his message of hate. Originally intent on convincing Cena to “embrace the hate,” Kane insisted for weeks that the Cenation leader tap into a thread of DNA that may not even exist.

His endeavor has proven fruitless, as the diplomatic Cena continues to hold firm in his belief that the WWE Universe should be free to cheer or boo whichever Superstars they see fit – even him.

Cena’s principled ways, however, have come at a high cost - in this case, repeated attacks by Kane that have spilled over to include Ryder. Seemingly conceding that Cena is unlikely to stray from his beliefs, The Big Red Machine now says he’s out to ensure that Cena suffers the consequences of rejecting hate.

Though Cena barely thwarted Kane’s devious plan to drag Ryder into hell on the Jan. 2 Raw SuperShow, luck was not on his side, or Ryder’s, a week later when Kane used Ryder as bait to lure Cena into a trap.

The WWE Universe watched on in horror Jan. 9, as The Big Red Machine injured Ryder by chokeslamming the U.S. Champion off a loading dock platform onto wooden pallets. Although Cena tried to run interference and prevent Kane from further assaulting his friend, The Big Red Machine overpowered the Cenation commander-in-chief, leaving him lying, unconscious, as the show went off the air. On Jan. 29, live on pay-per-view, Cena will have his chance to avenge Ryder, while Kane will have his opportunity to reap the consequences that he seeks. Who will succeed? Has The Devil’s Favorite Demon’s relentless attacks worn down Cena? Or will Cena, outmatched physically by the terrorizing monster, somehow manage to out-will Kane?

WWE Summerslam results [August 14,2011]

LOS ANGELES – WWE Chief Operating Officer and special guest referee Triple H guaranteed that an Undisputed WWE Champion would be crowned at SummerSlam. Yet, much to the surprise of the sold-out crowd packed inside the STAPLES Center, neither CM Punk nor John Cena would raise the coveted prize high above their head at the end of the night.(PHOTOS)
There were several near-falls in this competitive clash after both ring warriors punished one another with their signature maneuvers, but The Second City Savior ultimately nailed The Cenation Commander-in-Chief with a second Go to Sleep to pick up the pinfall victory – even though Cena’s foot was on the bottom rope. Apparently not noticing that Cena had broken the hold by reaching the ropes, The Game made the three-count.
As Punk celebrated his contentious victory in the aftermath of one of the most important bouts in WWE history, Triple H’s longtime friend Kevin Nash – unseen in a WWE ring since the 2011 Royal Rumble Match – stormed through the crowd and leveled the tattooed Superstar with a brutal Jackknife Powerbomb before making a hasty exit. Dazed, Punk was helpless as Alberto Del Rio seized his destiny by successfully cashing in his Money in the Bank contract on the battle-weary Undisputed WWE Champion. After nailing a prone Punk with a devastating kick to the skull, Del Rio pinned his shoulders to the canvas to capture the title.
Del Rio wound up on the losing side of an explosive Six-Man Tag Team Match earlier in the night, but that defeat didn’t distract the moneyed Mexican from attaining the championship glory he has long felt destined for. Del Rio knew that following Nash’s assault, Punk would be unable to repel his cash-in attempt as he had done less than a month earlier at WWE Money in the Bank. With his well-timed enziguri, Del Rio not only sealed a WWE Championship victory, but used his Money in the Bank winnings to defeat the sole Superstar to parlay Money in the Bank victories into World Title wins two years in a row.
Following weeks of escalating animosity between Cena and Punk – two Superstars who couldn’t possibly be more different  from one another in terms of in-ring style and personal ideals – the simultaneous WWE Title holders gave it their all as they vied to become the first-ever Undisputed WWE Champion at The Biggest Event of the Summer. In the end, The Straight Edge Superstar put the Cenation leader to bed with his patented GTS, emerging victorious just three weeks after his controversial return to Raw with the WWE Title in hand shook the WWE Universe to its core. This victory would similarly generate buzz throughout the WWE Universe, but for once, Punk wasn’t the catalyst. (READ MORE)
After both Cena and Punk voiced their disagreement with Triple H’s call, The Game’s Kliq cohort Nash – himself a former WWE Champion – charged the ring and made short work of The Second City Savior. The ambush left Punk vulnerable to Del Rio’s Money in the Bank cash-in, which made The Mexican Aristocrat the ninth “Mr. Money in the Bank” to use his title opportunity – which for one calendar year can be redeemed at the time and place of the winner’s choosing – to win a World Championship.
Del Rio’s devious but nevertheless legitimate Undisputed WWE Championship triumph is the latest success in an incredible landmark year for The Mexican Aristocrat, whose previous accomplishments included winning a grueling 40-Man Royal Rumble Match in January and besting seven elite Superstars in a high-risk Raw Money in the Bank Ladder Match in July. Following those two remarkable accomplishments, it was only a matter of time before the egotistical Superstar captured WWE’s richest and most illustrious prize. But few could have anticipated the method by which Del Rio’s destiny would be fulfilled.
Was Triple H aware that the monstrous Big Daddy Cool was in attendance at the STAPLES Center? Which former WWE Champion will get a rematch against Del Rio: Cena or Punk? Was The Game truly calling this match down the middle? And what of Stephanie McMahon’s confrontation with Punk earlier in the night? Regardless, the circumstances behind Del Rio’s shocking Money in the Bank-assisted win will have a massive impact on Monday Night Raw in the weeks ahead. But, to steal a line from Del Rio himself, “you already know that.”
